Western Australia is the only remaining state to imprison people for unpaid fines, not as an act of last resort.

But all this could be about to change.
Attorney General John Quigley has announced that reforms to fine default legislation will be introduced by the middle of 2019.

Social Reinvestment WA will keep campaigning to the last minute to ensure reforms protect vulnerable and disadvantaged people who pose no threat to community safety from being imprisoned.
